“I knew @vickigunvalson almost died because [her boyfriend] Mike Smith called me and said she almost died. Sorry @michaelsmith0522 and told me not to say anything!!” Dodd posted a photo of her and Gunvalson on Instagram on Monday, August 26. “So I didn't tell anyone!! See I can keep a secret! I spoke to my friend @vickigunvalson and she survived! I love you Vicki and wish you a speedy recovery.”

In the comments section of Dodd's post, his followers were quick to express their concerns and well wishes for the Coto Insurance founder.

Drama! Kelly Dodd has a history of saying what she thinks, which has gotten her in trouble more than once. The former Real Housewives of Orange County star, who appeared on the show from 2016 to 2021, noted that her controversial actions over the years were likely the reason […]

“So scary, I'm glad she's okay,” wrote one Instagram user, while another said, “Oh my god this can't be true. I pray she's OK. I met her and she is full of love and joy. Please get well soon Vicki.”

Gunvalson spoke about her recent health scare in the August 26 episode of her podcast “My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast” and brought her boyfriend Michael Smith to help her tell her story.

“There are a lot of hours missing from my life because I have a kind of amnesia,” she explained, before recalling going to the hairdresser “as usual” earlier this month. Gunvalson noted that “it seems to me like I was missing about an hour or two and I don't know where I was.” She went on to tell listeners that after she returned to the office, a client – who happened to be a retired emergency room doctor – noticed something was wrong as she was “talking gibberish” and “writing an email” that “made no sense.”

“He stood up and said [Michael’s daughter] Olivia that I might have had a stroke, we didn't know,” Gunvalson continued. “I don't remember anything and [Olivia] took me to the hospital.”

The Bravo personality said she was misdiagnosed with a sinus infection before being released that same evening. Smith noted that Gunvalson actually had a sinus infection a few weeks earlier that felt “different,” saying it “lasted longer” than normal and affected her overall well-being.

Smith was out of the country when Gunvalson's medical incident occurred. After his daughter called him to bring him home, he found Gunvalson “pretty unconscious” while she was taking a bath. He put her to bed, explaining that a doctor – who had confirmed her previous diagnosis of a sinus infection – had told him she needed sleep. After “13, 14 hours” of uninterrupted sleep, Smith took her to the hospital after she woke up disoriented, fearing she had suffered a stroke.

“She had a massive infection,” Smith explained. “It was actually sepsis, but it was pneumonia. And what happened – and I'm not a doctor, but as they explained it – is that when your body is fighting an infection that big and that dangerous, your whole body attacks it, which affects the brain and everything else in your body because your body sends everything it has to fight it.”

Although the recovery was a long process, Gunvalson is now on the mend and Smith assured her fans that she is “doing better” thanks to her friends and loved ones.

“She'll be fine,” he said. “She'll get out of there.”
