“Police resorted to retaliatory fire” Senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam on the killing of the accused in Badlapur

New Delhi [India]September 24 (ANI): Special Public Prosecutor, Senior Advocate and BJP leader Ujjwal Nikam on Monday said that two chargesheets have been filed against the perpetrator in the Badlapur sexual assault case and the police have enough evidence against Akshay Shinde.

Speaking to ANI, Nikam said, “Two chargesheets were filed against the accused and the police had enough evidence against him. The two victims of the rape incident had identified the accused and the victims had also told their parents about the incident. If the police had gone to court with such strong evidence, he would have been given the death penalty.” He also said that if accused knew that they had no chance of escaping, they could turn violent.

“In such a case, if the accused knows that he has no chance of escaping, he may become violent. Akshay Shinde may have been mentally depressed and therefore attacked the police or attempted to commit suicide. The police had to resort to retaliatory firing and two policemen were seriously injured. Unfortunately, many politicians are playing politics even in this incident. The truth will come out in the judicial inquiry. However, we should also remember that politics also influences the policemen. We must stop our comments till the judicial inquiry is completed.” Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske questioned how the police could sit quietly when they were being attacked.

Speaking to ANI, Mhaske said, “If the police are attacked or fired, why should they sit quietly? The police are protecting everyone. Shouldn't they be protecting themselves? The opposition had created such a huge uproar that the accused was to be hanged. The same opposition is now supporting the accused. If the police shot the accused, the opposition is now blaming the police. They have no right to say anything about this incident. (ANI)
