Nursing student kidnapped and sexually abused in Tamil Nadu – police launch investigation

A nursing student in Theni district of Tamil Nadu state was allegedly kidnapped and raped by unidentified assailants, police said on Monday, adding that the victim was found at a railway station.

She left her hometown by bus and called her father to inform him that a woman in a black dress was following her. Later, the victim's phone was unavailable, after which her father approached Theni police station.

The accused allegedly left her near Dindigul railway station, where she approached the police and told them that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted nearly 50 kilometres from the station.

The student was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Dindigul for medical treatment, said Dindigul district police commissioner Pradeep, who also visited the hospital for an examination.

It is difficult for the police to question the victim because he reportedly suffered an epileptic seizure during the questioning.

Police said an FIR had been filed under two sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and investigations were underway to arrest the accused.
