Harold Lavanway of Vermont found dead in car – NECN

A missing man from Readsboro, Vermont, was found dead Monday in a vehicle that had driven over a steep embankment.

Vermont State Police were alerted to a car matching the description of Harold Lavanway's Honda Civic on Tunnel Street in the town of Whitingham that morning. Officers responded and found the missing 73-year-old dead.

According to police, an initial investigation revealed that Lavanway was traveling northbound on Tunnel Street and negotiated a left-hand curve in the roadway. However, as the roadway straightened, Lavanway veered off the northbound shoulder and came to rest approximately 10 feet below an embankment. The time of the accident is currently unknown.

Lavanway's body will be taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

A neighbor last saw Lavanway around 10 p.m. Friday as he drove his Honda south toward Monroe Bridge, Massachusetts. His family called police Sunday morning to report he was missing and, despite several attempts, could not be found.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call State Police at 802-442-5421. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
