Gulfport man sentenced to life in prison for stabbing roommate to death in 2022

GULFPORT, Mississippi (WLOX) – District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced that Christopher Moore, 44, of Gulfport pleaded guilty to killing 63-year-old Darrell Parker in August 2022.

The investigation began on August 3, 2022, when Gulfport Police received calls about a stabbing at a home on St. Charles Street in Gulfport.

Police discovered that the calls came from roommates who lived in the same house as Parker and Moore.

The home was a halfway house for people recovering from drug addiction.

After officers entered the house, they found Parker lying in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds to his head, back and chest. They also found two broken knives next to his body, and a third knife was found in the trash can.

After interviewing several people, a witness testified that he saw Moore behind Parker, wrapping his arms around his neck and repeatedly holding him in a headlock, according to Assistant District Attorney Haley Broom, who prosecuted the case.

Although Moore attempted to justify his actions as self-defense, the evidence collected did not support his claim.

After accepting the guilty plea to first-degree murder, District Court Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Moore to life in prison at the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

“This was a tragic and senseless act that resulted in the death of a defenseless man who could not defend himself. The maximum sentence allowed by law was appropriate in this case,” said District Attorney Parker.
