A Forest Park man died on September 15 as a result of a stabbing on Chicago's West Side.

The Cook County Coroner's Office identified the man as 38-year-old Lavonte Jones, a resident of the 7700 block of West Monroe.

According to police, the man was walking on the 300 block of South Homan Avenue in the Garfield Park neighborhood at 3:30 a.m. on September 11 when three men approached him, pulled out a sharp object and stabbed him.

The victim suffered cuts to his chest and shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The perpetrators fled on foot south on Homan.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

At press time, no one was in custody for the stabbing.

Detectives from Area 4 are investigating the case.
