A man is on the run after a fatal stabbing on a busy street outside a popular Sydney restaurant.

Emergency services rushed to Marrickville Road at around 7.40pm on Monday after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed outside Guzman Y Gomez.

Police and paramedics performed CPR on the injured man, but he could not be revived and died at the scene of the accident.

Relatives and friends rushed to the scene of the accident and wanted to see the man, who was covered with a white sheet.

Witnesses heard the “heart-wrenching” screams of the man’s mother as his brother rushed to lift the sheet covering the body.

Police detained the distraught man, who was heard screaming, “He's my f***ing brother, don't touch me,” before officers shot him with a taser.

The cries of other desperate relatives of the victim could be heard as police searched the crime scene with flashlights in hand and questioned nearby shop owners.

The relatives of the deceased were taken away by the police before the crime scene was cordoned off.
