Gulfport man sentenced to life in prison for stabbing roommate

Christopher Moore

A Gulfport man will spend the rest of his life in prison after admitting to stabbing a man to death in 2022.

District Attorney W. Crosby Parker said 44-year-old Christopher Moore pleaded guilty last week to killing 63-year-old Darrell Parker in August 2022.

District Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Moore to life in prison.

Gulfport police were called to a home on St. Charles Street following a stabbing attack. Two roommates called police to the halfway house and found Parker in the kitchen with numerous stab wounds and two broken knives next to the body.

An investigation revealed that a witness saw Moore standing behind the victim, with his arms wrapped around his neck, stabbing him repeatedly while holding the victim in a headlock.

Moore attempted to justify his actions as self-defense, but the evidence collected by Gulfport police did not support his claim.

At the sentencing, Dodson told Moore: “You cannot take the law into your own hands.”

“I'm so sorry, Your Honor. I wish I could sit with this man's family and give them some closure,” Moore said. “I wish I could relive this day.”
