Danny Murphy makes an interesting Premier League prediction for Erik ten Hag after Man Utd's draw with Crystal Palace

United are 11th in the Premier League table and have only picked up seven out of a possible 15 points in their first five league games this season.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a huge upturn following their 3-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League and their 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Murphy's Man Utd Prediction

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Danny Murphy welcomed Manchester United’s new defensive signings under Erik ten Hag.

However, despite the signing of Joshua Zirkzee, the Match of the Day expert is far from convinced that United lacks real options for the centre-forward position.

Joshua Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford from Serie A side Bologna for £36.54 million in July, with the Dutch striker strengthening Ten Hag's attacking options.

The 23-year-old Dutch striker impressed with his combination play against Crystal Palace, but Zirkzee was unable to score for United before Ten Hag substituted him.

Murphy believes United's lack of goalscoring ability will dent the Red Devils' hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

“I think they've made some good additions on the defensive side of the field that will help them in that regard,” Murphy said.

“But they have not addressed the lack of goals. Last season they were joint-fewest goal scorers in the top half, along with Manchester United.

“They brought in Zirkzee, the only offensive player. He is a young lad, not a goalscorer and not a real centre-forward.

“This will not get Manchester United where they want to be in terms of title contention. I think even in the top four they will struggle, even if they create chances and there is creativity in the team.”

Ten Hag on Man Utd vs Palace result

At his post-match press conference, ten Hag admitted that he was anything but satisfied with his team's performance since the start of the season.

“The performance was good, but we are not satisfied with the result [with]we are disappointed with the result.

“It's clear. One thing I know for sure is that there is still a long way to go in football. And if you play with the quality that we are delivering now, the points will come, the goals will come.”
