A man was arrested after allegedly groping a woman in Vancouver.

The suspect was caught after the woman chased him and called for help.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, September 22, around 11:45 p.m. in a residential area near the intersection of Main Street and East 62 Avenue, according to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The man is said to have approached the 32-year-old woman from behind and groped her; she was alone.

He then tried to run away, but the woman followed him and called for help.

“Her screams attracted the attention of two men in a nearby home who came outside just as the suspect fled into a yard,” Sergeant Steve Addison said in the release. “The Good Samaritans detained the suspect while the woman called 911, and our officers arrived moments later to arrest the man.”

The police also confiscated the man’s car.

The VPD praises the woman for her courage.

“This woman showed courage, poise and presence of mind after being attacked by a complete stranger,” Addison added. “We commend her and the people who assisted her for locating the suspect and our officers' quick arrest.”

The suspect, a 34-year-old man believed to be from the area, has not been charged at the time of publication but has a court date of January 25, 2025.
