Israeli attacks on Beirut targeted the Hezbollah commander and hit 1,300 targets

While its positions in southern Lebanon and its strongholds in the Bekaa Valley in the east were attacked, Hezbollah fired 165 rockets and other munitions across the border, including a barrage of fire on Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Most of the rockets were intercepted.

Since Hezbollah does not have its own missile defense systems, it was undoubtedly the most affected by Monday's clashes. The Israelis attacked more than 1,300 targets on what was by far the fiercest day of the 11-month confrontation between the two sides.

Lebanon's health minister said at least 356 people were killed and more than 1,200 injured in the attacks, including 24 children.

The movement's ability to act was severely compromised last week. Simultaneous attacks on its pagers and walkie-talkies incapacitated thousands of its members and severely impaired their ability to communicate.

An airstrike on Friday killed several senior commanders, including Ibrahim Akil, the head of Hezbollah's special forces, and the attack would have severely hampered the group's ability to plan an effective response to the Israeli offensive.

Following the attacks, Israel signaled that it was entering a “new phase” in its conflict with the group.
