Plymouth woman arrested after standoff, yellow flag procedure applied

PLYMOUTH, Maine (WABI) – Authorities said a woman was released after a yellow flag evaluation but was also arrested following a standoff in Plymouth.

Police ordered a curfew on Friday evening for the duration of the crisis.

Evelyn Melanson, 66, of Plymouth, faces multiple charges, including domestic violence by threat of a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct in connection with domestic violence and assault in connection with domestic violence.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office said it received a report shortly before 5:30 a.m. of a suicidal woman threatening another person with a gun.

They say that during an altercation, the other person managed to take the gun away from Melanson.

Afterwards, everyone except Melanson left the house.

They say the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team, the Maine State Police Tactical Team and members of the Penobscot County Criminal Investigation Division arrived to assist.

They say that after several hours and numerous unsuccessful attempts by Penobscot County crisis negotiators to contact her, a warrant was requested and issued for Melanson's arrest.

They also say that a search warrant for the apartment was requested and granted.

They eventually found her in her RV and she was arrested.
