BBMP forms committee after tragic death at Malleswaram playground

BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath on Monday said he has formed a three-member committee to examine the quality of work at the Rajashankar Playground in Malleswaram in Bengaluru city, where an 11-year-old boy named Niranjan died on Sunday when an iron gate fell on him. The playground is maintained by BBMP under the Gandhinagar Assembly headquarters.

Meanwhile, Malleshwaram police have filed a First Information Report (FIR). Regarding the complaints of substandard work in the playground, Tushar Girinath said that the three-member committee also includes the chief engineer, quality control, and that the committee will submit its report in a week. All complaints of substandard work must be brought to the notice of the three-member committee.

Mohan, Bharatiya Janata Party's Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha MP, said the tragedy could have been prevented if officials had heeded the warnings a year ago.

“I demand a thorough investigation into the case and urge an immediate review of all parks to prevent such tragedies in future,” the MP said, demanding appropriate action against those responsible for the tragic death of Niranjan, the son of an autorickshaw driver. Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the FIR registered in the case.
