Rugby player dies after fatal tackle

In a tragic turn of events, Ashwill Sauls, a rugby player for Robertson Rangers, died in hospital on Saturday afternoon following a fatal tackle during their match in Montagu.

Rangers, a rugby club from Robertson, travelled to the neighbouring town of Montagu for a friendly match, but the short, 25.4-kilometre journey ended in tragedy for all involved.

Sauls, 24, who has played for Rangers for the past five years, was seriously injured in the clash with Montagu RFC, suffering multiple broken ribs. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

BOLAND RUGBY COMMUNITY MOURNS

Bennie van Root, President of the Boland Rugby Union, has since confirmed that they are willing to provide the family and the club with any support they can in the future.

β€œIt is a sad day for the family of the deceased and also for the rugby community in the region as a whole,” said Van Roos.

Saul's family have not commented and the Boland Rugby Association have asked the media and the rugby community to respect their wish for privacy as they deal with the loss of the promising player.

In addition, the Rugby Association has asked everyone not to post, share or forward insensitive comments about the tragic incident on social media platforms.

Sauls was a well-known content creator on TikTok, the video-sharing social media app, where his account had nearly 17,000 followers and nearly 238,000 likes.
