Murder investigation launched after 15-year-old schoolboy stabbed to death with ‘zombie knife’ – South London News

A murder investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death with a “zombie knife” in a gruesome attack last night.

At around 6.35pm, police were called to a disturbance on Eglinton Road in Woolwich.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a 15-year-old boy with a stab wound. Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, he died a short time later.

His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers, the Met said.

Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, who leads Greenwich Police, said: “Once again we have had to tell the family of a child that their loved one has been killed in an act of violence involving a knife. Our thoughts are with them as they try to come to terms with what has happened.

“The fact that a teenager who had his whole life ahead of him was separated from his family in this way is a haunting and sobering reminder of the danger of 'zombie-style' knives.

“We are committed to doing everything in our power to get these guns off our streets.”

Police officers will remain in the area over the next few days and police have urged residents to speak to officers for support and advice.

DCS Lawry said: “We know this murder will also send shockwaves throughout the community and I understand the genuine concern this will cause. We share that concern.”

“The local teams are working closely with the specialist homicide investigators so that we can establish exactly what happened as quickly as possible. The investigation is in full swing today.”

The police are asking the public for information to assist their investigation.

DCS Lawry said: “We need your help to find answers that the victim's family desperately needs. Do you have any information that could help our investigators? Even the smallest detail could prove crucial.”

“Were you in the Eglinton Road area on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m.? Did you see anyone fleeing the area?

“If you live in the area, do you have CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashboard cameras? We have a Online portal where you can upload pictures or video material.

“If you have any useful information please call us on 020 8721 4005 and quote Operation Baghaze.

“Alternatively, if you are uncomfortable speaking to the police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. They will not pass your personal details to the police.”
