First Quantum Minerals reports death in mine in Zambia

“The accident site was immediately secured and work in the accident area has been temporarily suspended. Work will resume as soon as it is determined that this can be done safely,” the Toronto-based mining company said in a statement.

The Kansanshi mine, which produced 134,827 tonnes of copper and 68,970 ounces of gold last year, has struggled with safety issues in the past.

Two First Quantum contract workers at its Zambia plant, including one in Kansanshi, died in separate accidents in November last year.
