One dead and four injured in horse-drawn carriage accident

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WPTA) – The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a horse-drawn carriage.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening around 8:30 p.m. south of the intersection of CR 1050 N and State Road 19.

According to a preliminary investigation by authorities, both an SUV and a horse-drawn carriage were traveling south on State Road 19 when the SUV struck the rear of the horse-drawn carriage.

Officials said the buggy driver and three passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and one passenger was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The SUV driver was uninjured, they said.

According to a press release from the department, the horse also died in the accident.

This is an ongoing investigation.
