Wycombe vs Aston Villa Predictions

Aston Villa are a big club with no major trophies in recent history, but they can clear their first EFL Cup hurdle by beating League One Wycombe at Adams Park.

The Villans have not won a major trophy in over 28 years, but they have made tremendous progress under Unai Emery, who led them to fourth place in the Premier League last season.

Qualification for the Champions League was hard-fought and some of the rewards will be seen next Wednesday when Villa face Bayern Munich in their first top-flight continental home game since 1983.

The Bayern game comes between Premier League games away against Ipswich and at home against Manchester United, and Emery will almost certainly take those upcoming fixtures into account when deciding his starting lineup for this cup tie.

However, there are a number of talented players waiting for his chance, including Colombian striker Jhon Duran, who has already scored four goals as a substitute in the Premier League and will be keen to make an impression in his first competitive appearance of the season.

Wycombe face a tough game but the Dutch side are unbeaten in six games, including a 1-0 away win at Championship side Swansea in the second round of the EFL Cup.

The Chairboys are ninth in League One and have scored more goals than any other team outside the top three, with 12 goals.

However, they have also conceded ten goals and their questionable defense could dash any hopes of a major upset.

Important statistics

Each of Aston Villa’s last six wins has featured at least three goals.
