Mother who took her child to a riot outside a migrant hotel is spared prison | UK | News

A “misguided, naive and immature” young mother who took her 20-month-old son in a stroller to a riot at a madhouse hotel has been spared a prison sentence.

Nevey Smith, 21, of West Street, Oldham, threw water at police officers attempting to maintain order outside the Holiday Inn in Newton Heath, Manchester, on July 31. She admitted violent disorder last month.

Passing sentence at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, Judge Patrick Field KC said: “You chose to participate in the disturbance even though your 20-month-old child was in the pram.”

Bebe King, six, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, died following the stabbing at Hart Space in Southport, Merseyside, on Monday July 29.

Axel Rudakubana, 18, from Banks, Lancashire, will face court next year after being charged with three counts of murder, ten counts of attempted murder and possession of a knife article in a public place.
