Open-air concert on the Norder at the SHMF

Kiel. Sting is coming to Kiel! The superstar will be giving an open-air SHMF concert on the Kiel Nordmarksportfeld on Sunday evening, June 14, 2025. There are 10,000 tickets available, and SHMF presales start on Friday, September 27. Standing places cost 76 euros, while seats in the stands, which can only be purchased through SHMF presales, cost 150 euros. At the SHMF concert as part of Sting's upcoming tour with only a few stops, he will present his new band “3.0” – a trio like The Police with guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland.

The new live band includes singer and bassist Sting as well as guitarist Dominic Miller. He can be heard on all albums since Sting's third solo album “The Soul Cages” (1991) – except for “Songs From The Labyrinth” with baroque lute music by John Dowland. The third member of the band is drummer Chris Maas (Mumford & Sons, Maggie Rogers). Looking at previous concerts in the new constellation, such as the one in Dresden at the end of May, Sting, then 73, will probably draw on his extensive repertoire in Kiel as well.

Most recently, Sting played many songs from his solo career and Police classics live

In Dresden, the band “3.0” played classics by The Police such as “Driven To Tears”, “Tea In The Sahara”, “Can't Stand Losing You”, “So Lonely”, “Roxanne”, “Every Breath You Take” and “Walking On The Moon”, and songs from Sting’s solo career such as “Fields Of Gold”, “Englishman In New York”, “Desert Rose”, “Fragile”, “Mad About You” and “Fortress Around Your Heart”, as well as deeper songs from the solo catalogue such as “When The Angels Fall” by “The Soul Cages”. A lavish spread for fans. Sting’s new song “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” should also find a place on the setlist, and perhaps a few new ones will be added before the Kiel concert.

“Sting can choose where he plays concerts – and he still has a jam-packed schedule,” said the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival when asked how Sting came to be booked. In recent years, the SHMF has repeatedly tried to get the star to come to the festival. Factors such as the right time and the right venue probably influenced Sting's decision, the SHMF suspects. And perhaps also that the British musician took part in the final of the 15th Jazz Baltica in Salzau in 2005 – at the time with Dominic Miller as a guest for three songs.

In addition to the stage and audience area, there will also be a catering offer on the Norder. The festival will “ensure a smooth parking situation” around the area. The Nordmark sports field is also easily accessible by bike or public transport. When asked, the SHMF does not appear to be worried about potentially bad weather in mid-June. “June is one of the predestined open-air months. We are of course counting on good weather!”

Sting has won numerous awards throughout his career, including 17 Grammys, two Brit Awards, a Golden Globe and four Oscar nominations. The musician also acts and is committed to humanitarian projects and environmental protection.
