Edo Governor: Police announce post-election strategy as tensions rise

As the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo draws to a close, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the election, Frank Mba, has announced a security strategy to ensure peace in the state.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday evening by the Force's spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, at a time when tensions are rife across Edo State over the likely winner of the election.

The statement said: “Strategies include, among others, demonstration of force exercises designed to build citizen confidence and ensure the readiness of the armed forces to respond appropriately to potential threats to public security in the state.”

“In line with the post-election security strategy, the DIG has ordered increased presence in and around INEC facilities, key electoral stakeholders and other critical infrastructure in the state.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian police also called on citizens, especially those in Edo State, to remain peaceful and law-abiding in their activities.

The force, however, warned against any conduct by individuals or groups that could disrupt the existing peace in the state, stressing that the security forces are more prepared than ever to ensure lasting peace in the state.
