Hispanic voters in Arizona are key demographics in the presidential election

(The Center Square) – The Arizona Republican Party and Latino Americans for Trump hosted an event Friday afternoon to rally Hispanic voters behind former President Donald Trump, with Rep. Steve Montenegro in attendance.

“Kamala Harris' failed policies have devastated Hispanic communities across Arizona,” said a statement from Jaime Florez, the Trump campaign's Hispanic communications director. “From historic inflation that has made daily life more expensive, to rising crime rates that threaten our neighborhoods, to a border crisis spiraling out of control, Hispanics are feeling the brunt of her failed leadership. Under President Trump, we will return to policies that promote economic opportunity, safety and prosperity for Hispanic families and all Americans.”

Local business owners and members of the Hispanic community echoed that sentiment Friday, saying their businesses have suffered under the Biden-Harris administration over the past four years.

“This country is run by small business owners like me,” said business owner Terry Mendoza. “I can't wait for this election to be over so I can be an American again.”

Montenegro also noted that poverty rates among the Hispanic population are below pre-pandemic levels.

“Inflation is killing us,” he said. “We need President Trump.”

The most important issues for the Hispanic community were poverty, inflation and securing the border. It was also pointed out that Hispanic voters are one of the key demographics when it comes to tipping the balance in an election.

“This is the voting bloc that will decide the fate of the presidential elections,” said AGOP chairwoman Gina Swodoba.

While Republicans claim they have secured this voting bloc, a poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights suggests Harris has a narrow lead over Trump among Hispanic voters. However, nearly 40% of Hispanic voters surveyed said they “strongly disapprove” of President Joe Biden's presidency.

In a poll on the issues most important to Hispanic voters, 41% said they believe Trump is better equipped to handle immigration, while only 38% approved of Harris. However, when it comes to reducing inflation, 43% of Hispanic voters said they trust Harris more than Trump. In addition, Harris scored 10% higher than Trump among Hispanic voters on creating affordable housing.

In the Arizona Senate election, Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego fared significantly better among Hispanic voters than Republican candidate Kari Lake: 51% would vote for Gallego. In addition, 45% of Hispanic voters surveyed said Gallego was better equipped to deal with immigration, compared to Lake's 36%. Gallego also had a lead when it came to combating inflation and affordable housing.

While Hispanic voters seem to be more on Gallego's side in the Senate race, the presidential election is much more exciting not only among Hispanic voters, but among Arizona voters as a whole.

“President Trump has done more for the Hispanic community and they've seen it,” Montenegro said. “What matters to the Hispanic community is results. We're going to win Arizona for President Trump.”
