Acrobat (29) fell 6 meters during show in Burghausen

She slipped and fell: During a performance by Circus Krone in Burghausen, an acrobat fell six meters. The 29-year-old was seriously injured and was flown to hospital. A Circus Krone spokeswoman has now commented on the incident.

Burghausen – It must have been a shock to everyone: During the quickly sold-out afternoon performance of Circus Krone on Saturday (21 September) in Burghausen's forest park, a tragic accident occurred. According to the police, the acrobat Amalia Avanesian (29) tried to perform a free-floating trick with her 48-year-old partner – but fell from a height of about six metres.

Paramedics provided first aid

It is still unclear how the serious accident on Saturday afternoon (September 21) could have happened. “Amalia Avanesian slipped during our show in Burghausen and fell about six meters,” confirmed the Circus Krone spokeswoman. The paramedics present provided the artist with first aid just a few seconds after the accident.

“We do not yet have any information from the hospital regarding her current state of health,” the spokeswoman said. The entire Circus Krone team hopes and prays for Amalia Avanesian's quick and full recovery. “We ask for your understanding that we cannot provide any further information about the accident,” the spokeswoman added.

Two highly professional athletes

Amalia Avanesian is part of the duo “Flash of Splash”, which has been working at Circus Crone since 2019. According to the circus spokeswoman, they are two highly professional artists who were awarded the Bronze Clown at the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo. The two artists show their tricks on so-called straps. These are straps that are attached to or close to the ceiling.

The specialty of the two artists: the so-called tooth hang. Amalia Avanesian hangs from a rope that her partner holds with his teeth and performs powerful tricks. There is currently no information on whether the accident occurred during this trick. What is certain is that it is not the first time that something has happened during this act.

Two accidents in 2019 and 2020

Media reports of incidents in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Amalia Avanesian's partner – Yevhen Abakumov – lost his footing and fell six meters. The fall was not serious, the artist suffered no broken bones and only complained of severe back pain. Just one year later, at a performance in Zurich, Abakumov fell again during the same number – and limped off the stage, knocked off his partner. A spokeswoman for the circus later announced that the artist was fine and had only bruised his foot.

By helicopter to the hospital

The accident on Saturday afternoon in Burghausen appears to have been significantly worse. The 29-year-old had to be flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. The police have begun investigations. Witnesses who filmed the incident are asked to contact the police.
