The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon as the two teams are expected to play their decisive third game of the series.

After Saturday's loss, my predictions for the Rockies vs. Dodgers game are that the Dodgers will return to winning ways thanks to a strong performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Prediction for Rockies vs. Dodgers

My best bet
Yoshinobu Yamamoto over 6.5 strikeouts (-143 at Caesars)

Best odds available in your region

My analysis

Dave Roberts and the Los Angeles Dodgers are still in the process of planning their postseason rotation, but one thing we know for sure: Yoshinobu Yamamoto is slated to fill a major role, and the Dodgers would prefer to have him in full form before the playoffs.

Since returning from a rotator cuff injury, the Japanese rookie has thrown eight scoreless innings, striking out 11 batters and allowing seven hits. He was particularly effective in his comeback against the Cubs, recording eight strikeouts in just 59 pitches.

The team is slowly increasing his workload and he is expected to throw six innings or 90 pitches on Sunday, which should be enough time to dominate the weak Colorado Rockies team.

Colorado ranks 28th in wRC+ (83) against right-handed pitchers. Things have not been any better lately, as the Rockies have a wRC+ of 74 against RHP over the last 15 days while also boasting the sixth-highest K-rate (26.3%).

Yamamoto faced Colorado on June 1st and allowed one earned run in six innings, allowed seven hits and had seven strikeouts. The bookies have his strikeout rate for today's game at 6.5, and I can see him going over that number for a second time against this opponent.

The 26-year-old is in the 80th percentile in chase rate (31.5%) and the 87th percentile in K rate (28.5%). We haven't seen much from him this year, but what he has seen is undeniably impressive.

Yamamoto will be pitching at home against a beatable opponent and behind the plate will be a pitcher-friendly umpire, Alex MacKay. I'm betting he gets seven or more Ks on Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani Selection: TEASER

My best bet
Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 total bases (-125 at bet365)

My analysis

Shohei Ohtani is coming off a historic week and there's no reason to expect the hitter to slow down now. He's hit 4-of-7 with one home run, two RBIs, three runs scored and two steals so far this series and is averaging 3.8 total bases in his last 10 games.

I consider Ohtani an alien because this seemingly supernatural individual can do things that we mere mortals simply can't. Well, we just need two or more total bases to cash in on that prop, and he's done that in three of his last five games.

Antonio Senzatela gets the nod for the Rockies. We haven't seen much of him since 2022, when he posted a 5.07 ERA and a 5.24 xERA. It's going to be a warm, sunny day with winds of 6.9 to 10.3 mph blowing into right field, which is great weather for Ohtani to continue doing damage.

Rockies vs. Dodgers – Same Game Combo (SGP)

Dodgers -1.5

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 7+ Strikeouts

Shohei Ohtani 2+ total bases

The Dodgers have a huge advantage on the mound and at the plate, so it would be a surprise if they didn't cover the run line. They've done that in 20 of their last 32 home games, so it's expected to be a winning day for the home team in La La Land.

Senzatela has only made three starts since the start of the 2023 season, but the prediction systems have seen enough to not favor his chances of a very effective comeback. Most systems project an ERA in the mid-5.00s for the 29-year-old.

He has had no easy task against the Dodgers in his career, posting an ERA of 5.98 and a WHIP of 1.62 in 64 ⅔ IP against his division rival.

Rockies vs. Dodgers Moneyline and Over/Under Analysis

  • The Dodgers have won six of their last eight meetings with the Rockies and covered the run line in all six wins.
  • It was a safe bet that the Dodgers would achieve their team total over at home, as they have cashed that ticket in 27 of their last 43 games.
  • The Rockies, on the other hand, have fallen short of expectations on offense, reaching their team total under in 18 of their last 29 road games.
  • The Dodgers have been trending toward the over at home for some time now, hitting the over mark in 46 of their last 72 games at Dodger Stadium.
