Urgent warning to frozen burger patty lovers after terrible tragedy

A viral video warns others to learn from the fatal mistake a man made while trying to separate two frozen burger patties.

Barry Griffiths, 57, died at his home in Wales, UK, after stabbing himself in the stomach while preparing a burger dish in July last year.

His body was found several days later, fully clothed on his bed with a trail of blood in the hallway, bathroom and bedroom.

An autopsy released this month found that Griffiths, who had limited use of one arm after a stroke, died of a stab wound.

TikTok user @mr_DYK shared Griffiths' story in a video that has been viewed over two million times and sparked an outpouring of condolences.

“They assumed ol' Barry was going to get a burger for the day and pulled out these patties,” the TikToker said.

“And we all know that these patties always stick together, even with paper between them.

“You try to hit them on the side of the counter or something to get them apart. Sometimes you have to get the knife out. That's what Barry did.”

“He was trying to separate these things and accidentally stabbed himself in the stomach with the knife.”

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees told the court that Griffith's death was the result of an accident that he himself caused.

“The bottom drawer of the freezer had been left open and pulled forward to access the food,” Rees said.

“On the kitchen counter next to the fridge-freezer were two raw burgers, a knife and a tea towel.”

“The wound on the abdomen was approximately at the height of the work surface. My hypothesis at this point was that Mr Griffiths was attempting to cut up frozen burgers with a knife.”

Shocked commentators expressed their condolences and offered advice to others on how to avoid a similar fate.

“This is so sad. For safety reasons please use a butter knife to cut the burgers,” one person said.

“If I want frozen meat, I put it in the fridge overnight or use warm water from the sink to thaw it over a period of time. I have NEVER had a problem and can't imagine why anyone would try to force it,” said a second person.

“I thought it was just an urban legend my parents told me,” said another.

“This is like 'Final Destination,'” said a fourth person.
