Predictions, tips and odds for week 3

Predictions, tips and odds for week 3

After losing their first NFC West game of the season last week, the Los Angeles Rams will look to avoid back-to-back divisional losses today when they host the San Francisco 49ers. Injuries have marred this game, as Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and likely George Kittle will all be out, but it's still a rivalry matchup that's important for both teams.

The Rams are desperate after losing two games in a row to start the year, but they're not the only banged-up team that will be on the field, so at least they have a chance. Can they pull off the upset and avoid an 0-3 start? Here's our prediction for tonight's game at SoFi Stadium.

The Rams vs. 49ers game begins at 4:25 p.m. ET and can be seen on FOX.

Prediction for Rams vs. 49ers

It's bad enough that the Rams lost 9 of 10 regular season games to the 49ers, and now they're without their two best receivers, two starting linemen and two starting defensive backs. The good news is that Alaric Jackson returns from suspension this week, so he'll solve some of the problems at the left tackle position, but that might not make much of a difference if the rest of the line struggles again.

Los Angeles will need to start better today than it has the last two weeks. They fell behind 17-3 against the Lions and trailed 21-0 early in the second quarter last week. If the 49ers build a big lead, the Rams will be forced to play one-dimensional and pass-heavy, which doesn't bode well.

It would be a good idea to use more 12-man with two tight ends on the field to reinforce the line and hopefully help Kyren Williams get free. If that's the case, the Rams have a chance, but it won't be easy against a good 49ers defense.

Ultimately, San Francisco still has more talent in every area, and with Los Angeles' offense lacking identity, the struggles could continue.

Forecast: 49ers 24, Rams 17
