Edo election results update: APC and PDP neck and neck, LP struggles as INEC prepares to form coalition

Benin City, Edo State – The governorship election in Edo State has reached a boiling point, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) neck and neck in the polls while the Labour Party (LP) is struggling to maintain its momentum.

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to update the IREV portal with new results, APC and PDP are engaged in a bitter battle for supremacy.

Figures on the INEC results portal indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are neck and neck, with the Labour Party (LP) lagging far behind.

While Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Monday Okpebholo of the APC won their constituencies, LP candidate Olumide Akpata lost his constituency to the PDP.

All eyes are on the three senatorial districts in Edo State as party supporters await the results of the 18 local governments.

Experts say Stronghold of the PDP is the Edo South Senatorial District, while the APC base is the Edo North Senatorial District:

The Edo Central Senatorial District is considered a contested area, especially as the Workers’ Party struggles to maintain its momentum.

Updates to the INEC IREV portal

The INEC IREV portal aims to increase transparency and provides real-time updates on election results.

INEC has not yet started compiling the results, but significant progress has been made in uploading the results on its portal.

At the time of filing this report, the result lists of 4,442 out of 4,519 polling stations (representing 98.30% of all expected result lists) have been uploaded to the IReV portal.

As the counting continues, people in Edo State are eagerly awaiting the final result.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced in the early hours of Sunday, September 22, that the final counting of results would begin at 10am.

The announcement was made early on Sunday morning, September 22, at the INEC headquarters in Benin, the Edo State capital, which also serves as the final settlement centre.

Anugbum Omuoha, the state’s resident electoral commissioner, promised that the voting process would be fully transparent.
