2 dead after mass accident in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating a five-vehicle crash that left two people dead.

According to SCHP, the accident occurred around 11:20 a.m. Saturday morning on westbound I-26 near the 156-mile marker.

Authorities said a Honda CRV was traveling east on I-26 near 156 MM when it left the right side of the road. The Honda then oversteered and lost control.

After an overcorrection, the Honda drove to the left through the median and collided head-on with a Chrysler van. Both drivers of the Honda and the Chrysler died after the accident, according to SCHP

Three other cars were also involved in the crash. A Chrysler van, a GMC Denali, an Acura sedan and a GMC pickup truck towing a trailer were all traveling west on I-26 when the vehicles became stuck in debris from the collision.

The accident remains under investigation by SCHP.
