Mary Trump's four words in response to Donald Trump's post about women

Mary Trump's four words in response to Donald Trump's post about women

Mary Trump has rebuked X in a fierce criticism of her uncle's recent social media post on women's issues with a scathing four-word response: “That's what the rapist says.”

The sharp retort came after former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to sharply criticize the current situation of women in America.

In his trademark all-caps style, Trump declared that women are “POORER,” “LESS HEALTHY” and “LESS SAFE” today than they were four years ago and promised to “FIX ALL OF THIS, AND FAST.”

Newsweek Trump's campaign team asked for comment via email on Saturday.

Mary, a clinical psychologist and daughter of Donald's brother Fred, is a constant thorn in the side of the Trump campaign trying to reclaim the White House. In 2020, she published a book called Too much and never enough: How my family created the most dangerous man in the worldwho was critical of her famous uncle.

Her latest social media jibe refers to the May 2023 verdict in the civil case in which the former president was found guilty of sexually assaulting advice columnist E. Jean Carroll during a shopping spree in Manhattan in 1996.

Although the jury found Trump not guilty of rape, it awarded Carroll $5 million in damages for sexual assault and defamation.

In his latest post, Trump claims that under his leadership, women will “STOP THINKING ABOUT ABORTION” and that the issue is now “UP TO THE STATES AND A VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.”

This stance is consistent with Trump's recent moderation on the abortion issue. During the presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris moderated by ABC News, he refused to sign a national abortion ban, stating, “I'm not for an abortion ban, but that doesn't matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states.”

Trump’s role in the appointment of three conservative Supreme Court justices during his term, which led to the repeal of the Roe v. Wade in 2022 has made abortion a central issue in the upcoming election. Since the Supreme Court ruling, 14 states have shut down nearly all abortion services and three states have enacted six-week bans, according to a June ABC News report.

A recent survey by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on August 29 for Newsweek found that 34 percent of eligible voters consider abortion a deciding factor in their choice. Of 862 people, 19 percent said they would vote for Trump and 53 percent said they would vote for Harris. The poll had a sample size of 2,500 people with a margin of error of 1.96 percentage points.

Mary's criticism of her uncle goes beyond political disagreements. During a scheduled early afternoon appearance on MSNBC's The Katie Phang Showshe gave some insights into her estranged uncle's childhood and his dysfunctional character development while talking about her latest book Who Could Ever Love You: A Family Memoir.

While acknowledging the hardships of his upbringing, she argued that his problematic personality traits were “appreciated by his father” and “put to good use” in the Trump household.

“Donald is exactly the same person today as he was as a teenager,” Mary explained, warning against leaders who “don’t evolve as people.”
