Bhubaneswar, Sept 21 (PTI) – Former Odisha chief minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said his party would study the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal in detail before taking a stand on the issue.

Speaking at the 12th edition of the Odisha Literary Festival organised by the New Indian Express, he said the party would study the proposal and its implementation.

“When the details come to light, we will investigate them and take a position,” he said.

Responding to a question about the new BJP government in the state, Patnaik said, “All can see how law and order in Odisha has deteriorated after the incident involving the governor's son in Puri. Recently, an army major and his fiancée were violently harassed at a major police station in the capital. This is not a good record.” He was referring to the “attack” on an Odia officer allegedly carried out by the governor's son Raghubar Das.

The alleged sexual assault of an army officer's fiancée at a police station sparked a storm of outrage on Friday. Patnaik condemned the incident as “shocking” and demanded a judicial inquiry, while Chief Minister Mohan Majhi vowed to take strict action against the culprits.

Asked about the performance of the state and central government in the first 100 days, Patnaik said, “It is too early to start counting.” The BJD chief stated that he has served the people of Odisha for the last 24 years and said he would now continue his work as the leader of the opposition.
