Florida state parks whistleblower deserves a medal, not his dismissal

Florida state parks whistleblower deserves a medal, not his dismissal

Give him a medal

Whistleblower who warned about Florida's state parks fired by state agency | September 3

The article about the state firing James Gaddis for leaking information about the state's plan to add golf courses and hotels to our state parks is nothing more than Governor Ron DeSantis' desire to find a scapegoat – someone to take the blame for his endless interpretation of history. Unfortunately, I am not surprised. As far as I can remember, DeSantis has never taken responsibility for anything related to this state that does not benefit him personally. In my opinion, Gaddis deserves praise from the state for acting in the best interest of Floridians. His termination letter states that “employees are to put the public's interests above their personal interests.” And that is exactly what he did. Thank you, Mr. Gaddis. Any organization with integrity is lucky to have you. I wish you the best.

James Gaddis should be named Person of the Year by the Tampa Bay Times.

He deserves better

Why was James Gaddis fired for discovering something bad in the state of Florida? He should be applauded for bringing it to the public's attention, not for his own benefit, but for the good of the state and the environment. It was the public outcry caused by Gaddis' actions that drew attention to the issue. Citizens raised their voices, and the governor subsequently abandoned the bad idea.

What happened to freedom of information? Are there sunshine laws? Gaddis deserves better, and so do the people of Florida.

Good for him

We thank citizens like James Gaddis for their courage in exposing our self-centered governor, who seems to have no idea that Floridians want to protect their beautiful natural environment.

Every taxpayer and consumer should be happy that there are people willing to stick their necks out and do the right thing. Thanks to the employee who exposed this and to the Tampa Bay Times for shedding light on the nasty, secret deal surrounding the Florida parks.
