KPRC 2 Investigates has exclusive video of a terrifying break-in in Spring Branch

On Tuesday, armed men forcibly entered a family's home in Spring Branch and took the mother and her two young boys – ages 1 and 3 – hostage while attempting to search the house.

A brave Houston police officer was shot and his mother was bound with zip ties.

KPRC 2's Bill Spencer obtained exclusive video from the owner of the home where the robbery took place. The video shows us how these burglars entered this family's home and what they did to this woman and her two young children.

The details, which have not yet been fully revealed, are horrifying and the mother's behavior in this case is extraordinary and borders on superhuman powers in the Marvel comics.

Watch the video and decide for yourself.

There are actually two heroes in this story: the mother who was protecting her two children and the HPD officer who was also protecting the family and was shot in the process.

Further information on the incidents

Chief Diaz of the Houston Police Department said during a press conference that the shooting occurred at a home in the 7100 block of Alderney Dr. and Antoine Dr.

There, two armed men disguised as delivery drivers knocked on the front door and forcibly entered the building when a mother, who was at home with her two children, opened the door.

A neighbor noticed the suspicious situation and called 911 around 9:40 a.m. Police officers were on the scene in less than five minutes, Police Chief Diaz confirmed.

When the police arrived at the scene, the front door was wide open. The young woman and her children were inside. The mother's hands were tied with cable ties and the two men were trying to rob the house.

The two robbers at the scene were arrested. A third suspect was arrested later on Tuesday.

Why the robbers chose this particular house is not yet known.

The mother and children in the home were not injured, and Chief Diaz said they may have been saved in part because the neighbor reacted quickly, allowing police to intervene immediately.

Tuesday afternoon, HPD announced that Officer SA Durfee is expected to make a full recovery

In a press conference shortly after the incident, Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz said Officer Durfee – whose identity had not been publicly released at the time – was shot once in the thigh and was in stable condition. He was “in very good spirits,” the description said.

“[Officer Durfee] is a hero to me,” added Chief Diaz.
