Trailer for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, release date announced

Sega and the prolific Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced the next game in the Like a Dragon series (formerly Yakuza) – and given it a release date of February 28, 2025, just over a year after the release of the epic Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

The game is titled Like a dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. A spin-off starring the eccentric, eyepatch-wearing series regular Goro Majima. It's a conceptually wild tall tale in which Majima, suffering from amnesia, washes ashore on a deserted island near Hawaii and ends up clashing with some old-fashioned pirates from a place called Madlantis. Although this all seems to take place in the present day – there's even a storyline involving Nele Island, which Pirate Yakuza in the events of Infinite wealth – Majima somehow ends up as the captain of a pirate galleon, sailing the high seas and searching for lost treasure, because why not?

All of this is set up, if not exactly explained, by a typically extensive seven-minute trailer narrated by Majima himself, recalling the events of six months ago – so perhaps there is an unreliable narrator at play here. Whatever the case, it looks like silly fun, with flashy real-time brawls, an apparent return of the delivery mini-game from Infinite wealtha pirate queen who lives in a secret city made of old ships, and a young buddy with a pet tiger cub.

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It will be RGG Studio's fifth Like a Dragon game in as many years – not counting remasters and remakes. They are unstoppable.
