Bangor man sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a child

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – “I don’t know how else I can protect people from you.”

A judge said this today as he sentenced a Bangor man to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.

Last month, 48-year-old Aaron Robshaw was found guilty of one count of aggravated sexual assault and three counts of unlawful sexual contact with a person under the age of 12.

These charges stem from Robshaw's abuse of a family friend when she was 9 to 11 years old.

It was an emotional day in court as the survivor gave a victim impact statement before the verdict was announced.

She says Robshaw's actions drove her to suicide three times, but she is lucky to be alive and to see the day he was convicted for his crimes.

Robshaw wiped tears from his eyes as his family spoke on his behalf in court.

The judge also sentenced Robshaw to 20 years probation with extensive conditions.

He cited Robshaw's criminal record as the reason for the lengthy probation, including a previous conviction for sex crimes against minors and failure to comply with registration and other court requirements.
