Suspect in knife attack on Japanese boy is unemployed and has a criminal record, Chinese media report

The suspect, a 44-year-old man surnamed Zhong, was reportedly arrested by Dongguan police in 2015 for damaging public telecommunications facilities and released on bail, state-run Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported on Friday.

According to the report, he was placed in administrative detention by Shenzhen police in 2019 for a maximum of 15 days for “fabricating facts to disrupt public order.”

Zhong confessed to the attack on the boy on Wednesday, the Shenzhen news agency reported, citing police.
