“We wanted to go to sea” on TV: This is what the drama is about

Rostock, mid-1980s. East German dockworkers Cornelis and Andreas dream of one day sailing the world's oceans as sailors in the merchant navy. In order to achieve this promotion, they apply to the Stasi to spy on the rebellious but likeable foreman Matze. The friends manage to find out from Matze about his plans to escape from the GDR. But then Cornelis begins to doubt the pact with the Stasi. Andreas, on the other hand, loses all scruples over time. He is prepared to sacrifice his friends for the sake of his career.
