Scottish police investigated allegations of sexual assault against Al Fayed at the Highlands estate

Scottish police have investigated allegations of “recent sexual assault” by Mohamed Al Fayed after an incident was reported at his former estate in the Highlands.

The investigation has now been completed, but the case could be reopened “if new information becomes available or is reported,” police said.

The investigation related to an alleged attack at Mr Al Fayed's Balnagown estate in Easter Ross, BBC News reported.

A Scottish Police spokesman said: “Following an investigation into a report of a sexual assault that occurred in Scotland, which did not occur recently, the investigation has now concluded.”

“However, if new information becomes available or is reported to the police, further investigations will be carried out.”

The former Harrods owner was a “monster” whose case included the “most horrific elements of … Jimmy Savile, Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein,” according to the legal team for his alleged victims.

Five women said they were raped by Mr Al Fayed, who died last year aged 94, and several others made allegations of sexual abuse.

The legal team appeared in a BBC documentary called “Al-Fayed: Predator At Harrods”, in which more than 20 former female employees spoke to the broadcaster as part of a special investigation and made allegations of assault and physical violence in buildings in London and Paris.

The PA news agency understands that Harrods has received new enquiries since the BBC documentary was broadcast.

Mr Al Fayed had previously been accused of sexually harassing and groping several women, but an earlier police investigation did not result in charges.

Harrods had previously stated that the company was “deeply appalled” by the allegations of abuse and had set up a page on its website encouraging former employees to come forward if they had allegations.
