Why the Chiefs could cover/win the spread

Kansas City started the season 2-0 and both wins were pretty good. The Bengals may not be as good, but the Ravens are still a good team despite their record. With that said, the Chiefs just found a way to win both games. Patrick Mahomes is a big reason why. He is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL and can lead the Chiefs to a win over any team. If Mahomes plays a good game, the Chiefs will win.

Thanks to Mahomes, the Chiefs are sixth in the NFL in scoring. They're scoring 26.5 points per game and that will need to continue if they want to beat the Falcons in prime time. One player who has really taken a step forward this season is Rashee Rice. He's become Mahomes' primary target and has caught 12 passes for 178 yards this season. Mahomes needs to be strong in the passing game, so Rice will need to have a big game.

Kansas City has been pretty decent on defense. They've allowed 25 points in their two games this season, including 20 points. The Falcons were shut out by the Pittsburgh Steelers and were pretty quiet for the most part against the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Chiefs can pull off their no-break defense style against Atlanta, they should be able to win this game.

Why the Falcons could cover/win the spread

Atlanta just pulled off a fantastic win over the Eagles. Kirk Cousins led a comeback with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The offense will have to keep up with Kansas City on Sunday night. The good news is that the Chiefs aren't playing particularly well defensively. First off, their pass defense is the second worst in the NFL. They allow 256.5 passing yards per game and have yet to intercept a single pass. Kirk Cousins, along with Darnell Mooney, Drake London and Kyle Pitts, should be able to pick this defense apart.

The Chiefs' run defense hasn't been great either, allowing 120.5 rushing yards and 4.8 rushing yards per game. Kansas City will have a hard time stopping Bijan Robinson in this game. Robinson has rushed for 165 yards in the two games and should be able to break the 100-yard mark against the Chiefs. If Robinson runs the way the Falcons expect him to, they will win the game.

Kansas City hasn't used Travis Kelce very well this season, and that's hurt them. Additionally, Mahomes is making more mistakes than usual. With that in mind, the Falcons should be able to play a decent defensive game against the defending champions. Another thing to consider is the injury to Isiah Pacheco. Kansas City is without its starting running back. With that in mind, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Falcons came out on top.

Final Chiefs-Falcons Prediction and Pick

This will be a good game. Both teams have good quarterbacks and I wouldn't be surprised if a field goal decides the game. I'm picking the Falcons to cover the spread.

Final Chiefs-Falcons prediction and pick: Falcons +3 (-102)
