New York COVID czar Dr. Jay Varma accused of attending sex party and dance while calling for quarantine

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — The doctor who led New York City's response to the COVID-19 pandemic attended sex parties and a dance while urging citizens to stay home.

Dr. Jay Varma, then-Mayor de Blasio's chief health adviser, acknowledged that he “attended two private meetings” and did not exercise his best judgment.

His statement came after a conservative podcaster, Steven Crowder, posted a hidden camera video of Varma discussing the parties with a woman standing outside the camera's view.

Varma did not question the authenticity of the statements he made in the footage, but said they were “secretly recorded, edited, chopped up and taken out of context.”

Dr. Jay Varma made the following statement:

“Unfortunately, I have been targeted by an agent of a far-right organization whose goal is to slander public health officials and destroy the public health system in America. This individual is highly discredited and has been banned from numerous media outlets due to his homophobic slurs and racist tirades.

“In these private conversations, which were secretly recorded, edited, fragmented and taken out of context, I referred to events that occurred four years ago. I served at City Hall between April 2020 and May 2021. During that time, I attended two private meetings. I take responsibility for not exercising my best judgment at the time.

“In the face of the greatest health crisis in a century, our top priority was saving lives, and every decision was based on the best available science to keep New Yorkers safe. I stand by my efforts to get New Yorkers vaccinated against COVID-19 and oppose dangerous extremist efforts to undermine public confidence in the need for and effectiveness of vaccines.”
