Stevie Wonder goes on tour before the presidential election

Stevie Wonder is going on tour, playing ten shows ahead of the presidential election on November 5. The tour is called “Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart” and the musician will be making stops in swing states and major cities on the East Coast throughout October. Tickets go on sale today and a select number of free tickets will be available “for those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to heal our nation's broken heart.”

Wonders Tour kicks off on Tuesday, October 8th in Pittsburg, PA before making stops in New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore. The show then makes stops in Greensboro, NC, Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. It concludes on October 30th in Grand Rapids, MI.

The artist has been actively involved in the 2024 election. In August, Wonder took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “This year I pray very fervently for peace to come to the nations of our world,” he said, among other things, before beginning a performance of his 1973 hit “Higher Ground.” “Beyond prayer, I know the importance of action, and now is the time to understand where we stand and what it will take to win.”

On September 1, Wonder released the politically charged song “Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart,” a plea for people to put aside their differences, love each other, and make the world a better place for future generations. The track also gives the tour its name and will likely feature prominently in the setlist.

It's been nearly a decade since Wonder last toured, although this tour was much more extensive. His Songs In The Key Of Life ran for 44 dates from November 2014 to November 2015, paying particular tribute to his 1976 album Songs in the style of life before the then upcoming 40th anniversary. Wonder played the entire album with one break and an encore.

More recently, Wonder was the subject of a seven-part podcast series The miracle of Stevie. The series focused on Wonder's “classic period” from 1972 to 1976 and was hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning cultural critic Wesley Morris. In addition to exclusive conversations with Wonder, the show also featured guests such as President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.
