Man extradited and charged with sexual assault in Uttar Pradesh

Charges have been filed against a 23-year-old man accused of sexually abusing two minors in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, state officials said.

Trentin McWilliams, a native of Norway and most recently of California, was charged Wednesday in 95B District Court in Iron Mountain with seven felonies in connection with two sexual assaults that allegedly occurred in Dickinson County in 2018 and 2022, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced in a news release.

McWilliams was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, sexual battery of a child for an immoral purpose in connection with an alleged assault in 2018, three counts of third-degree sexual abuse and two counts of fourth-degree sexual abuse, she said.

A judge set McWilliams' bail at $200,000 in one case and $350,000 in the other. The judge also scheduled a probation hearing for Oct. 2, with a preliminary examination to follow Oct. 10.

McWilliam's attorney was not immediately available for comment Friday.

According to authorities, McWilliams abused a child at a relative's home in 2018. The Attorney General's Office filed charges against him in July 2024.

Officials also allege he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in a vehicle in October 2022. The Dickinson County District Attorney charged him in connection with the assault in February 2024, Nessel's office said.

She said the U.S. Marshals Service extradited McWilliams from California to Dickinson County earlier this week to face charges there.

Nessel also said his extradition was part of an initiative called “Operation Survivor Justice,” a partnership between her office, Michigan County prosecutors and the U.S. Marshals Service to find and arrest fugitive Michigan offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants. The program was launched this year and Michigan contributed $1 million in funding.

“Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact in Michigan and across the country,” Nessel said in a statement. “Through our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, we have successfully removed a number of individuals accused of sexual assault from their communities and ensure they face the charges in court.”

Earlier this month, Nessel's office filed charges against a former Dearborn Heights resident who allegedly sexually abused a child in 2012. The defendant lived on Guam.

Last month, Nessel said a fugitive and registered sex offender from Coldwater, wanted for the alleged sexual assault of a minor in 2016, had been transferred to stand trial after the U.S. Marshals Service extradited him from Florida.
