“Why are mob attacks normalized?”

The murder of a mentally unstable young man named Tofazzal, who was the victim of a mob attack for theft in the Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall of Dhaka University (DU), caused great shock throughout the country.

Like other social media users, actress Mehazabien Chowdhury also spoke out against this brutality. In her post, she asked, “Why is mob beating becoming normal?”

The actress' fans and followers have expressed their solidarity with her. One of the users commented, “Abrar Fahad asked for some water in his last moments and Tofazzal bhai was given a full meal before his death. Both incidents seem similar to me. Today justice must prevail. It no longer matters who is talented or who is a student of Dhaka University. Justice must be done properly.”

Another fan wrote: “For some reason everyone thinks they are safe if they can blame the other group. Misbehavior is misbehavior – why bring party affiliation into the equation?” A third person stated: “If strict punishments are not imposed on criminals in this society given the current situation, it will lead to a very bad situation.”

In this regard, the Dhaka University administration has filed a complaint with Shahbagh police station, which has been accepted as a formal case. Aman Ullah, the head of the estate office of Dhaka University, filed the complaint on Thursday (September 19).
