Public heroism during stabbing in Rotterdam: Suspect arrested

Dutch police have launched an investigation into a fatal knife attack in Rotterdam that left one person dead and another seriously injured. A suspect was arrested after being subdued by concerned citizens and police.

The attack occurred near the Erasmus Bridge. The 32-year-old Dutch victim succumbed to his injuries and a 33-year-old Swiss man was seriously injured. The 22-year-old suspect from Amersfoort is said to have brandished two large knives during the attack.

Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack, although some witnesses claim the suspect shouted “Allahu akbar” during the incident. Police spokesman Wessel Stolle confirmed that the witness statements are part of the ongoing investigation.
