Georgia State Election Commission votes on controversial rule

The Georgia State Board of Elections is expected to vote Friday on a controversial measure that would require local polling places to conduct manual counts and certify that the numbers match machine counts before certifying election results for the November election.

The proposed rule is one of several that will be reviewed on Friday while three Trump-backed Republican lawmakers continue to push a barrage of proposals to change the state's electoral process in the final months before November.

Israel attacks positions in Lebanon while Hezbollah leader says ‘all red lines’ have been crossed

Israel's military carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon late Thursday night, heightening fears of a serious escalation in the conflict that has been simmering for months. The attacks come after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed revenge on Israel. The group accuses Israel of orchestrating a two-day, brazen attack that blew up Hezbollah pagers and handheld radios, killing more than 30 people and seriously wounding thousands. The Israel Defense Forces said more than 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers were hit, as well as an ammunition depot. Nasrallah said the attack crossed “all red lines” and was a “declaration of war.” Read more

Sean “Diddy” Combs may be “fighting for his life” as he faces trial and sex crimes charges, legal experts say. New York police on Monday arrested the controversial mogul, who has spent the past year fighting multiple civil lawsuits with alleged victims over allegations of misconduct spanning three decades. Combs maintains his innocence and pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of sex trafficking, organized crime and solicitation of prostitution. Shohei Ohtani makes history with his first MLB season with 50 home runs and 50 steals

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday became the first player in baseball history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season. He played a monster game against the Miami Marlins, hitting three home runs and stealing two bases in a 6-for-6 performance that produced 10 RBIs. He finished the day as a 51-51 man. And in doing so, he leaves behind the five other members of the 40-40 club: Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998), Alfonso Soriano (2006) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (2023).
