According to a local Chinese newspaper, the suspect confesses to stabbing a Japanese boy

According to a local newspaper in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, the suspect in the fatal attack on a Japanese student admitted the charge on Wednesday. However, the newspaper did not report on his motive or the background to the attack.

The 10-year-old boy was attacked by a man with a knife while on his way to a Japanese school with a family member. He later died in hospital. Authorities arrested the suspect at the scene.

The Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, a Communist Party bulletin published by the municipal committee, published the first detailed report on the incident online on Friday.

According to the report, the boy is a Japanese citizen and his father and mother are Japanese and Chinese citizens respectively.

It quoted a doctor as saying that several medical experts did their best to save him, but he died due to the severity of his injuries.

The bulletin said the 44-year-old suspect, whose surname is Zhong, admitted to stabbing the boy, adding that the attack was not premeditated and was carried out by a lone gunman.

It was said that the suspect had no permanent job and had already been arrested twice by the authorities. He was accused, among other things, of destroying a public facility.
