Odisha State Women’s Commission begins investigation into ‘sexual assault on a woman at a police station’

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) on Friday took cognizance of the alleged sexual assault on the fiancée of an army officer at Bharatpur police station and initiated an investigation into the incident.

SCW chairperson Minati Behera personally visited Bharatpur police station on Friday to enquire about the incident.

She interviewed staff and collected some case-related documents.

After his visit to the police station, Behera told reporters, “We took over the case on our own initiative and started investigation. When the CID took over the case, they took the documents with them. So we have collected all the available documents from the Bharatpur police station.”

Behera said she would visit the victim's house and talk to her.

The commission will also visit the criminal investigation department to collect the necessary documents and speak to investigators, she said.

After the necessary documents have been collected, a committee is formed to investigate the incident in detail.

The investigation report will be forwarded to the government with the necessary recommendations and discussions will also be held with the DGP, added the SCW chairman.
