“Hello, Madam Vice President! Welcome to Michigan,” Winfrey said.

“It's so good to be back, and thank you, Governor, for all that you are and all that you do for this state,” Harris said, looking at Whitmer. “Thank you very much.”

The event, which was supported by grassroots groups such as WinWithBlackWomen, Swifties for Kamala and White Dudes for Harris, also featured numerous celebrities and everyday Americans who took their seats virtually.

“I have to tell you this,” Harris said. “There's so much I love about our campaign, because it really is about the people. And I look around at those screens, I see who's in the room, and that's America.”

Oprah Winfrey moderated the discussion, focusing on several controversial topics such as the rising cost of living for abortion and the fight against her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump.

“There is so much at stake in this election, and ultimately the question is what kind of country do we want to live in,” Harris said. “The beauty of a democracy – as long as we can preserve it – is that each of us has the power to answer that question.”

“Right, everyone on this conference call has power,” Winfrey said.

Outside of the live webcast, security was particularly tight, with Michigan State Police, Oakland County sheriff's deputies and even Detroit police working in conjunction with Farmington Hills authorities and the Secret Service.

After two assassination attempts on Trump in recent months, federal authorities are now under special scrutiny. Meanwhile, many political observers tell FOX 2 that the Kamala-Oprah rally shows how much is at stake in this Michigan election.

“I have to tell you, I get calls every day from people asking, 'Where is the campaign office? Where can I get lawn signs?'” said Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Kinlock.

Celebrities who participated virtually included Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller and Julia Roberts.
