Udo Jürgens: New song as farewell to the 90s

“I forgot something here with you.” Something remained behind this door.
As I was leaving, I completely forgot that I was missing the most important thing.” Sentimental tones in Udo Jürgens' new hit. In 1985, he recorded the powerful piano ballad “Als ich fortging” for his album “Treibjagd”. But the song no longer fit into the concept of the album, was put aside – and forgotten. Now his children Jenny and John Jürgens have rediscovered it in the archives and decided to release the song. The single has been available since Friday and is already storming towards the top 10 in the domestic iTunes charts. From September 27th, “Als ich fortging” will also be available on the new best-of CD “Udo 90”. This commemorates both his 90th birthday (September 30th) and the 10th anniversary of his death (December 21st).

“It's really a gift that we came across it.” “We were always searching inside and hoping to find something else that Udo had written,” Jenny Jürgens enthuses about the previously uncovered gem. And she continues: “The song is great and tells a beautiful story full of great emotions. And on the other hand, the title 'Als ich fortging' is also associated with his farewell, his death.”

On November 26th, the new Udo hit will be heard for the first time in the Vienna Stadthalle. At the virtual concert show “Da Capo Udo Jürgens” presented by oe24. A multimedia show with a large orchestra under the direction of long-time companion Pepe Lienhard with all the hits – from “Griechischer Wein” to “Ich war noch niemals in New York” and Udo as a video feed. For this, the sound and image recordings from the last tour “Mitten im Leben” will be transformed into a digital concert spectacle using the latest technology.

“We support the project, however, because the production uses our father's original video recordings and the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra will perform live. Pepe has been on stage with Udo for 37 years. He would never do anything that goes against Udo's grain,” Jenny and John also give their blessing.
