One dead in stabbing in Rotterdam, suspect arrested

AMSTERDAM – One person was killed and two others injured, including the arrested male suspect, in a stabbing in the Dutch city of Rotterdam on Thursday evening, police said.

Witnesses told Dutch broadcaster NOS that the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack. However, police did not immediately confirm this and said investigations into the motive for the attack were ongoing.

Both the surviving victim and the suspect were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police did not release the identities of the victims or the suspect.

According to local media reports, the suspect stabbed his first victim in a parking garage under Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge before moving to street level where he fatally attacked another person.

Eyewitnesses described the suspect as someone who carried two large knives and targeted random people. REUTERS
