23-year-old biker killed in head-on collision with wrong-way car in Gurugram

In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old biker was killed in Gurugram early Sunday morning when his motorcycle was hit by a car driving in the wrong direction.

The victim, identified as Akshat Garg from Dwarka in Delhi, was travelling on a motorcycle with a friend when the fatal accident occurred on Golf Course Road near Belvedere Park, DLF Phase II in Gurugram.

Akshat wore safety gear including helmet and gloves while riding his bike.

His friend Pradyuman Kumar (22) followed him on another bicycle at a distance of about 30 meters.

According to police, Akshat and Pradyuman had started their journey from different places and wanted to meet a group of bikers at Ambience Mall after leaving DLF Downtown.

After crossing the Sikanderpur-Cyberhub flyover, they were approaching a curve when suddenly a Mahindra XUV 300 came from the wrong direction and sped towards them. The car collided head-on with Akshat's motorcycle, police said.

According to a report by Hindustan Newspaper A senior police official was quoted as saying, “Neither the driver nor Garg had a chance to avoid the collision.”

“The impact threw Garg over the car and his motorcycle was wrecked beyond recognition,” the officer added.

Though an ambulance arrived within five minutes and took Garg to a nearby hospital in DLF Phase II, doctors declared him dead, the report said.

“There were two men in their mid-20s and a dog in the car. Commuters arrested them and handed them over to the police. Unfortunately, my friend became unresponsive within a few seconds after I tried to open his helmet,” the report quoted Pradyuman Kumar as saying.

Pradyuman also said that the car was driving in the wrong direction in the lane designated for fast-moving vehicles.

“My GoPro camera attached to my helmet recorded the entire accident. But the police did not make a copy of the footage even though they had seen it,” he added.
